An absolutely spectacular growing region for Bordeaux varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cab Franc, and Merlot. The combination of hot days and cool nights provides the foundation for perfect ripening and balanced fruit. Of course, there is also the famous "Rutherford Dust" minerality and texture in the wines from this Appellation. Falling in love with the wines from Rutherford was part of what inspired us to start Mersenne. We knew we had to make wine from this amazing spot in the Napa Valley.

Russian River Valley
When it comes to finding the highest quality pinot noir fruit, the Russian River Valley is the place to be. The skins on pinot noir are much thinner than their Bordeaux varietal cousins. They need a cooler climate without the spikes of heat so often found in the Napa Valley. The cool foggy nights and "not too hot" days allow for the slow ripening of the fruit and produce a perfect balance of sugars and acids in the grapes at harvest. We love the bold and flavorful wines we create from the vineyards in this unique growing region.

Alexander Valley
This is the newest growing region added to our winemaking program. We think the climate in the Alexander Valley is the best in Sonoma County for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. It gets the heat it needs to ripen and cool nights it needs to build complexity. We are excited to have a wine coming soon from this wonderful appellation.
